It’s 5:45 on Halloween, the costumes are on, everyone is ready to go but you’re scrolling a Facebook thread full of “Following!” comments and zero actual answers for where to go.

I read those threads so you don’t have to. This guide covers house-to-house neighborhoods only, sorted by Moss Bluff, Sulphur, Lake Charles and Westlake. There are no trunk-or-treats here, because those live in their own article (below).

If you want a list of trunk or treats, pumpkin patches and other events, check it out here.

Halloween is Saturday, October 31. Most of these picks come from local parents on Facebook groups, not official sources. Check to confirm before you load the car!

Moss Bluff: Why Do You Have to Arrive before 5 p.m.?

Pentangeli Square is the big one. It’s a full community event, and the crowds are massive. Get there early, before 5 p.m., or you will not even be able to drive in.

Almost everyone sets up at the end of their driveway with a table, so you don’t have to go to the door. Some families turn it into a get-together, and some have cook-offs.

Other newer DSLD communities in Moss Bluff, like Porter’s Cove and Orleans Run, are worth checking in the neighborhood group.

Two older names also come up:

  • Executive Drive: shows up in older local guides. Confirm it’s still active before you go.
  • Presidential Circle: one parent says it used to go all out, but another thinks it may have stopped.

Sulphur: Which Neighborhoods Did Locals Name?

  • Belle Savanne: a Sulphur parent pointed to this one.
  • Maplewood: called “a popular place to go.”

Westlake: What Is the Golf Course Neighborhood Like?

A parent says the Westlake golf course neighborhood has police security and blocked streets, with over 250 houses. Families at tables at the end of their driveways, so you’re not knocking on some random house.

Lake Charles: Which Neighborhoods Are Worth the Drive?

South Lake Charles

  1. Holly Hill: the most-mentioned name by far. Neighbors set up at the ends of their driveways, so you walk less and collect more.
  2. Country Club Acres: one big loop, about a mile and some. Locals say there’s a police presence at the entry and the streets are blocked off. Park at Albertsons or the medical offices on Country Club and walk in.
  3. Graywood: self explanatory 😂
  4. East and West Savannah Lane: “always a good stop,” according to one parent.
  5. Weaver Park area: next to Barbe High.

Southeast Lake Charles

  • Morganfield: a growing community off East McNeese. A parent named it, and it got a pile of likes.
  • Autumn Run (off Gauthier): families load up every year. One parent says nobody really drives through. People park on the main road or at the start of the streets and walk in.

North Lake Charles

Downtown: the Goosport Candy Crawl flyer lists “treat stops” on JB Carter Lane, Athalee, Grace, Junior, Hagan, North Adam, Moeling, Martha and Booker streets. Hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Two versions of the flyer are going around, so check the newest one. A parent says it’s safe, with people directing where you park.

Plan your route! Save this neighborhood cheat chart for the best local trick-or-treating across Southwest Louisiana.
  1. Bring a wagon/stroller. We always do, and we’ve never regretted it. It carries the tired kid, the candy bucket and the flashlight.
  2. Arrive early at busy spots. Be there before 5 p.m. or you will be walking a long way.
  3. Check the neighborhood group first. Many tips are from past years, and streets change.
  4. Feed the kids before you go. Hungry kids melt down by house four.
  5. Plan your parking before you drive. At Country Club Acres and Autumn Run, the walk starts at the car.

A few parents say many neighborhoods have stopped going door to door. If a street looks dark, move on.
